“Festival” might be a bit of a stretch, but here’s some photos of a few things at the show this past weekend.
There were plenty of old school busses, plenty of bigly trailers, etc, but these were uninteresting to me because some of them were borderline mobile homes.

The weird thing about so many tiny houses is that modern RVs (especially towables) would be the better alternative in so many cases. To me, a tiny house has to be artistically or functionally unique enough to justify its existence. Most of these clearly fit the bill!
And a lot of people have been focused on mobility, but for slightly larger, permanent structures, the next step up are things like Katrina Cottages (named for their “invention” after Hurricane Katrina to help quickly rebuild areas with classy, quick homes). Unfortunately, mobility seems to have taken over the entire downsizing movement — that’s cool, but again, if you want wheels then the RV industry has you covered pretty well.

I lived in a 35-ft travel trailer with my mom for about two years. With that experience , I can say that I’m not interested in living that lifestyle again. Maybe just me and my wife, but I think even that would be pushing it for both of us.

When I first read “CO” “Tiny House”, it sound dangerous.

I don’t get it at all. RV’s, campers....an entire industry based on this. Used campers aren’t even that expensive. You get more space for the same amount of weight.

Just buy one on Amazon!

Ban tiny houses. Just actually build reasonable small homes that people can afford instead.

Mobile homes are a better alternative than this.

Those are just home-built RVs.
Some certainly look cool, and appear extremely functional, especially the van conversions. The others that are basically a shed on a trailer seem a bit dangerous to be towing around though.

I think there’s a huge difference between living in one and using one for trips. I can’t imagine living in a space that small with even my wife. Maybe when i was still single and childless, but not now.

Tiny homes aren’t supposed to be a replacement for affordable housing. This is basically an offshoot of the overlanding hobby .

Exactly why I can’t understand the “tiny house” movement. I thought it wa s being driven by lower income people who had never lived in something so small. Then I saw one of those shows where a family of five moved from their five bedroom house into a tiny house parked in their driveway. A t the end of the show, they claimed that they missed living in the cramped conditions, but they didn’t talk about selling their big house and moving into something smaller.
If it were a tiny house with a giant shop on a decent piece of land, I might reconsider my position.

Most of them i’ve seen were either being pulled around for vacations or what not, or put onto plots of land. In most cases, the people living in them did not NEED to live in them. Its just a hipster-y camper basically.
I think a basic one on 10 acres or so might not be bad.

But if you call it a tiny home you can sell them for lots of money to hipsters!

It is? My sister and her hipster friends were all into them, and they’ve never so much as set foot on a trail...
Actually, I see what you’re saying now.

It is until it isn’t. Really the answer is mixed use multi-family housing, but nobody seems to actually want to solve the problem.
